Because of the political instability that continues to plague the country, Madagascar’s economic status is still in limbo. This disruption of some sort equates to the country’s slow economic progress. Despite that, Madagascar was able to perform adequately by imposing limitation of its trade barriers. Last year, Madagascar’s Economic Freedom Score was at 61.1 percent, down 0.6 point. This means that despite the country’s ‘moderately free’ status, still, a lot of concerns are yet to be addressed such as corruption and property rights.
